Artist Biography

Christine was born and grew up in the country near Warburton. She first made baskets for the NPY Women’s Council in 1995, during the introduction of the craft. Her most notable contribution at that time was the construction of two baskets made with a type of stringy tough bark called taliwanti. This small tree grows on the top of sandhills and the bark was traditionally used to make sandals for summer time. Christine’s use of this material was part of the early exploration of materials when ideas for baskets were first developing. She has continued to make baskets though only in small numbers.
