Artist Biography

Diane is a Pitjantjatjara woman born in Amata community, South Australia. Diane spent her early years in this area, travelling around with her parents, brothers and sisters, from whom she learnt about her Pitjantjatjara culture, heritage and language. Diane later went to school approximately 500 km west of Amata, in Irrunytju (also known as Wingellina) community, Western Australia.

Diane has lived in Irrunytju since this time, working in the local art centre. Here she also paints the Minyma Kutjara story. Diane begun Tjanpi in 2016, when she attended a skills development workshop in Irrunytju. In this workshop, her first piece was a well-woven basket using Minarri grass and coloured raffia.
