Nyinku is a very senior law woman from Kaltukatjara (Docker River) Community on the WA/NT border. Nyinku has been making baskets since 1995. She is a lively, animated woman who has always been keen to try new ideas. She has one piece in the Manguri Weaving collection at Araluen in Alice Springs. Nyinku and her sister Martha Protty pioneered a new technique of making baskets with Xanthorrhea (grass tree) leaves. She likes to call these baskets ‘Indian baskets’ and this style of her work is slowly influencing a large number of other weavers in the region. Nyinku’s work has been in many group exhibitions over the years.
