Artist Biography

winifred-reidWinifred is a Ngaanyatjarra woman living in the remote community of Warakurna, Western Australia with her husband and children. The community of Warakurna is located approximately 800 km south west of Alice Springs, and 1700 km north east of Perth and has a population of approximately 200 Ngaanyatjarra people. As such, Winifred is a fluent in both Ngaanyatjarra and English.

Primarily working with traditional Tjanpi materials, including wool, raffia and Minarrigrass, Winifred’s works focus on depicting local Central Desert animals and traditional artefact-shapes. Winifred participated in the Warakurna Early Days collaborative project with Warakurna Artists which resulted in her work being exhibited at Desert Mob 2016 in Alice Springs, Northern Territory.
