Artist Biography

Yangi Yangi Fox is a Pitjantjatjara woman born near the creek at Ernabella.  Her mother came from near Blackstone and her father came from Watatjarra.

Yangi Yangi went to the first women’s meeting at Docker River which led to the formation of the NPY Womens’ Council. Yangi Yangi then worked for many years with the NPYWC on the executive.

Her first baskets were several small ones. In the years to follow she made more and more refined baskets and her experience as a proficient wood carver ensured her technique was well finished and demonstrated a good feel for the medium.

These days Yangi Yangi continues with baskets and also makes grass animal sculptures adapted from shapes she has worked with in wood. She continues to be very busy with her family, health work as well as her weaving.
