‘We developed this way of making baskets from looking at the bird’s nests, our knowledge of their ways. The birds use wood, sticks like bones to give shape and strength to their nests, and then they use lovely soft grasses and feathers to make a beautiful home, warm and comfortable.’

Desert Mob Exhibition opens at Araluen Gallery Thursday 7th September at 5.30pm

Ilawanti Ungkutjuru Ken, Nyurpaya Kaika-Burton, Mary Katatjuku Pan exhibit new works from Amata inspired by notions of community, family, kinship and nurture. The artists will give an artists talk at Araluen Gallery 1.30pm Saturday 9th September
