FITE - Biennale Textile
Musée Bargoin, Clermont-Ferrand, France
We're thrilled to share that three Tjanpi artists from Kaltukatjara (Docker River) - Beryl Bell, Sheryth Bronson and Donna Ferguson each have woven fibre artwork currently exhibiting at FITE - Biennale Textile in Clermont-Ferrand, France. FITE is a unique event that honours traditional craftsmanship threatened by globalisation, and the creativity of contemporary artists using textile as a medium.
The Northern Territory based artists drew straight from the source in the creation of their works, collectively titled Tjanpi Ute. Each sculpture weaves together tjanpi (native desert grass), raffia and discarded mechanical parts to pay tribute to the wonky, grumbling, broken and beautiful vehicles that characterise the NPY Lands. Technical assistance was provided by Em Frank and Ruby Henderson-Leconte.
