Tjanpi’s first animation ventures, Ngayuku Papa: Tiny and Ngayuku Papa: Bluey and Big Boy (2018), arose from an
artist-led imperative to explore different ways to tell and share stories from Warakurna, WA through Tjanpi artwork.
Stop-motion animation has proven to be an exceptional storytelling medium for the tactile form and inherent whimsy of Tjanpi sculptures.  Tangki – Donkey and Kukaputju – The Hunter, provided an opportunity to revisit working with this animation technique across a diverse range of props and characters in two additional NPY communities, Irrunyju (Wingellina) and Pukatja (Ernabella).  Tangki won two awards at the Sydney Film Festival 2022, the AFTRS Craft Award and the Yoram Gross Award for Best Animation, acknowledging excellence achieved through this new medium.
