REPRESENT

FORM Gallery - Whadjuk Noongar Boodja, Claremont, WA
7 March - 4 May 2024

Tjanpi is proud to be collaborating with FORM Gallery to present REPRESENT Aboriginal Figurative Practice in Western Australia (Part 2), the second in an exciting two-part exhibition series to be shown.

Co-developed with respected Whadjuk Noongar artist and elder Sharyn Egan, the REPRESENT series provides a survey of figurative practice by Western Australian Aboriginal artists. Part 1 celebrated the senior artists and landmark movements within Western Australian Aboriginal representational art-making, and included works by iconic senior artists from the past four decades. This second iteration of the project highlights the contemporary generation of emerging art stars interpreting figurative practice today.

Tjanpi's contribution to REPRESENT: Part 2 features Ngayulu Munu Ngayuku Papa (Me and My Dogs) by senior Warakurna artist, Yanyangkari Roma Butler. Yanyangkari's self-portrait surrounded by her dogs is inspired by her love and devotion to her family of papas (dogs). Ngayulu Munu Ngayuku Papa was a NATSIAA art award finalist in 2021 and is available for purchase.

"I’m Roma Butler. This is me sitting down with all my dogs sitting close by me - Bluey, Trinkle and Funny Face. They are always by my side, close to me, looking after me." - Yanyangkari Roma Butler
