The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory - Larrakia Country, Darwin NT
Open daily from 10am - 4pm

Since 1984, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) has presented annual art awards which celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and artists. 40 presents an incredible selection of artworks and stories from artists who have shared in the history of the Awards.

In 2005, the  iconic Tjanpi Toyota, produced by 18 women from Papulankutja, WA, won the NATSIAA award, just ten years after the first Tjanpi baskets were made. This was the first time a contemporary fibre art piece took the major prize in the history of this prestigious award.

We're proud to have this work included in 40, an incredibly important work that catapulted Tjanpi Desert Weavers onto the national and international art stage.
