We’re thrilled to share that Tjanpi’s 2022 animation Kukaputju (The Hunter) will be showing at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery as part of their upcoming exhibition Cats.
Directed by Jonathan Daw, Kukaputju tells the story of Pitjantjatjara woman Yanyangkari Roma Butler as she heads into the bush with her clever dog, Kungka. Together they track down a tricky (and tasty) animal that’s not easy to catch!
Also on display are several original props from the animation that helped bring the story to life, alongside a new artwork by Cynthia Burke titled Wiilyka (Feral Cat) - pictured below.

Incorporating painting, prints, drawings, ceramics, photography, sculpture and film, Cats will appeal to the cat lover as much as those who may be firmly in the canine camp and will give a unique perspective on the Australian relationship with this fickle feline.
